For anyone who's wondering, the command "sudo rm -fr /*" doesn't remove any language packs. It simply wipes out literally everything from your disk, including the os itself. The "-fr" is simply "recursively" and "force" combined, has nothing to do with French

On another note, did you know that for native english speakers the 2 easiest languages to learn are dutch and spicy dutch (Frisian which is from the dutch province of Friesland)
Also, Oppenheimer’s dad was german, Cillian Murphy pronunciation of the dutch words were with a german accent, he was in character 100% and it’s amazing.
Michael Fassbender learn to speak and sing in Polish to play in a very mediocre film: "X-Men: Apocalypse" and he did a good jobs (he, has noticeable accent but perfectly understandable). And Fassbender is Irish who never spoke a word of Polish. I did not see Oppenheimer, but is weird to be that an native English speaking cannot learn to speak another Germanic language in a understandable fashion.
@@Hadar1991 It's hard to learn a Germanic language and be barely understandable because English is a west germanic language that branched off from the same language Frisian branched off from. basically, if a native English man is speaking a Germanic language in a film and you can't understand what he's saying even though he speaks your language, that English man is in character and putting on a thick accent, or that's what I think at least.

Because if a Irish man can learn to speak and sing Polish for a mediocre film, then I would assume that other Irishman would have way easier time to learn Dutch.

Those two are indeed the easiest languages to learn for native English speakers, but the problem is mostly that they are one of the hardest languages to pronounce well for a lot of people.
Anecdotally, there's a channel called Schwerpunkt making hard core regional histories of Germany and pretty much all Medieval Europe talking about warfare in impressive depth too
Ironically anecdotally, I have visited his channel today.

I (German) once met an American who claimed to be German because his great-great-great-grandparents or something like that were German and he was super confused when I tried to talk to him in German (he didn't know that I was actual German at that point)
As a German who has lived in the US and Canada, I cannot tell you how many times this has happened to me. Or the other way around: Telling someone that I am German and only moved to North America at 13 years old, and then they seriously asked me if I can speak German. Like no, I never spoke with anyone prior to when I became a teenager.
The "dutch scene" in Oppenheimer was spoken so bad, that the german dub even redid him speaking dutch so the german Audience gets what langauge he is supossed to speak there
To be fair, we really had to. Dutch for Northern Germans is just the language we speak, when we're drunk and have caught a cold at the same time...

We have such things at North and Baltic Sea coasts, called "Förden", that's our equivalents to fjords - but despite having the same name, they can never reach Norways standards....
The terms refer to narrow bays, entirely based on utility, not geological history. So that's why the same etymological root has been used for completely different types of bays in the Germanic languages.
Naturally German North Sea bays are in flat terrain ground down by ice sheets while the Norwegian ones are largely between mountainous formations where glaciers ground to the sea.
That means a completely different character, but there is a similar shape to the bay, even if the topography could not be more different. With flat farmland and meadows falling off into mudflats on the German side, and steep cliffs dropping into the sea on the Norwegian side.

My ancestors were german and I’ve lived in the state of Utah my whole life. I feel so unlike everyone I know but the small tastes of german culture I’ve seen make me want to visit. I felt a little called out by drew in this vid lol

It was only after the movie when I saw the scene again with subtitles this time, that I could make up and recognize the words that were said and understand what he was actually saying. So yeah, his Dutch could've used some improvement tbh.

i thought he really did learn dutch, and i saw a video of someone transcribing it, and it seemed dutch, but i am not sure
@@brodoxlthe words are (kinda) Dutch but they are spoken with such a heavy accent that it ends up sounding more like German.
so you end up with Dutch words sounding like German words, being unintelligible to both Dutch and German speakers. especially because the scene is about a lecture about quantum-physics.
but he, i'm proud of the guy for even trying.
in the past in movies they (often) spoke straight up German in scenes that depicted something Dutch (James Bond is one of the few that did it right)

I don't know about the other colonies but in Philippines Spanish was not really implemented on the natives. It just stayed as as the language of the Elite and illustrados during the Colonial era. I guess that's one of the reason why our local language was somewhat preserve.
