| I'm going to say Higurashi, sorry. A lot of the mystery and suspense stuff especially in the beginning was reminiscent of it - small town, bizarre supernatural rumors, followed by violence |

In any case, recommending a series "as good" as Summertime Render is easy, but recommending something "alike" it is a bit of a loaded request, because for whatever reason, Summertime Render decides to change its genre from "suspense horror" to "action" at around episode 8. But based on the fact that you even made it through 8 episodes implies that you're looking for a "suspense horror", but I'm unsure. |

| Below are some of my recommendations. I know you will have seen some of these, but others may find them helpful. To preface, though, it's hard to give highly personalized recommendations. Looking at your list, it's incredibly critical. While I used to rate things similarly and did not believe in the concept of tens because nothing is perfect, I think you're doing yourself a disservice. MyAnimeList already lacks the fine-grained accuracy that other similar platforms have since the scale is 1-10 with no decimals; there is no way to clearly indicate that X, rated a 7, is better than Y, also rated a 7, while not quite being as good as Z, rated an 8. By being so highly critical, you're artificially limiting the range of that scale even further. If everything is mediocre or terrible, it makes it very hard to know what aspects of shows stand out to you. I don't mean any of that as an attack, genuinely. And it is totally okay to have your own way of rating things; you don't need to conform to the standards of others. However, if any part of you does it that way, perhaps for the approval of others, in a similar sense to how I rated music on Sputnik when I was a teen, I'd suggest going through it at some point and re-ordering your things a little. Anyway, Time-travel/time-loop thrillers: - Erased - Link Click - Steins;Gate Some combination of suspense, mystery, thrillers, dark settings, and conspiracies: - Psycho-Pass - Odd Taxi (I see you dropped this one after an episode — I'd really suggest giving it another chance. I thought I was going to hate it too, but it turned out to be a real gem) - Durarara - Kara no Kyoukai / Garden of Sinners - Death Note - Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood - Attack on Titan - Code-Geass - Monster - Welcome to the N.H.K! - Perfect Blue - Neon Genesis Evangelion - Terror in Resonance - Monogatari Series - Sonny Boy - JoJo's Bizarre Adventure Also, significantly less thematically related than even the perhaps strange list above, if the relatively adult theme and dark/gloomy setting interested you, then you may also enjoy: - Beck - Nana - Black Lagoon - March Comes In Like a Lion - Ping Pong The Animation - The Tatami Galaxy & The Night Is Short, Walk On Girl (very dialogue heavy, similar humor to Monogatari, wild visuals, etc - not everyone's thing, but if you liked Monogatari, give this a proper few episodes before dropping it) - FLCL (survive the first 3 episodes, watch the 4th) - Kids On The Slope - Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu - Mind Game Alexioos95 said: I'm quite amazed at how many peoples that doesn't even bother to check the list of the OP before recommending something is present in this thread... If you want to get into Higurashi either read the visual novel or the manga. The anime is noticeably rushed, doesn't portray characters properly, and makes impactful scenes unmemorable. Honestly, I really don't know why the anime gets so much praise. |

Summertime Render is a great show, but it doesn't come close to the quality of Higurashi's manga and visual novel. |
