As much as it's the current favorite punching bag, isekai isn't going to keep that spot forever as has been the case with battle harems, Madoka clones, death games, etc. What do you think will be the replacemnt?

As much as I miss traditional magical girl series, I wouldn't say there were that many Madoka clones as opposed to random harems and frickin narou-kei isekai. I'm pretty sure we're gonna keep having isekai for the rest of this decade too honestly, which wouldn't be such a problem if they all didn't seem/look the same to me.

I think the next potentially oversaturated fad has already started—mc loner boy randomly meets quirky girl who hangs around him for some reason.

Maybe a new hybrid of hi tech sci fi & mechas situated in the far dark corners of space, but still within the human species dominated space? A spin off of Warhammer 40K, where you see the good, the bad and the ugly of such future timeline in space.

? ? ?

I dunno, but I would love to see that. 1 Can dream & hope :P All we need, is just 1 good show to kick off a new era :D

Yeah, this is a concept that's always existed, but I always see one thread hyping/complaining about these seasonals these days.
Somehow forgot to mention Komi-san probably cuz I found the manga average

Though I'd say these types of harem anime might be a new fad too:

Imo the best way to make a prediction is by looking to the most popular mangas nowadays.

Since I don't read the newer most mainstream mangas I don't have an informed opinion but something I've been seing growing is Mahwa so perhaps this is the next thing(multiple series with OP characters)

"isekai" theme is more of an after thought to an Anime and less prevalent to any story.

I think the new fad has already started a while back without users even realizing it. The new fad is just trashy Anime. Anime that is totally disposable and not to be taken remotely seriously. Pushed to the side by those who obsess over particular franchises simply for being either generic or junk food for the mind. Yet even those who hate trashy entertainment will likely be in denial and watch what ever this industry pumps out just to not feel like they are left out of the loop. I can totally see a decade from now "Trashy" or "Trash" could become a new tag.

The industry is already giving us remakes or reboots of franchise that no one really asked for in the 1st place or never thought would be revived after such a long time period has passed. It's totally plausible that the industry will push the limit again and eventually and give us some trashy titles that push the envelope even more so than some franchise have in the past. We might even get a remake of "Agent AiKa" some day or something equivalent to having an anime made with literally an in your face gratuitous panty shot every 5 seconds while having a in-depth story or compelling premise.

I was thinking of this example lately and how much it has become a trope. Horimiya doesn't belong here though, it's a regular romcom and the story is told from the female mc's viewpoint.

Lol that's definitely what it'll be, ironically wouldn't say all the ones you mention are bad. But guess that's cuz I'm a girl and a couplke are more "fem-view" so it's interesting I never realized this genre was popular even in non-super shounen too

Definitely reboots or continuations of old nostalgic series. There's been a whole slew of them recently and they're showing no sign of slowing. Now, as much as I love old anime, this isn't necessarily a good thing, as many of said reboots have been disappointing.

Not any worse than what Disney's been doing to their older series. I'd take a less than great anime continuation or reboot over those any day.

They've been making these sorts of shows since forever. Urusei Yatsura is one in particular worth mentioning. But I have noticed more than a few "girl bullies boy" anime lately which is sort of a new spin on that old trend. Yeah that’s what I mean. This type of story formula has probably been around since the invention of language but anime adaptations of it have been popping up a LOT in recent years. I’m thinking it’s the current trend

Ero guro, but milder. You combine extreme violence and erotic elements to create catharsis, which both respectively sell well in recent titles, so there's that sliver of possibility I'm willing to stake on.

I dont think isekai is going to get replaced, magic high battle tournament harem shows just evolved into isekai. Maybe isekai will evolve, but at its core its far too versatile to get replaced. You can have isekai mecha, isekai fantasy, isekai romance, isekai political sciene etc

I could see that happen if they still want to draw more girls into the viewerbase, but it seems like BL or just pretty boy shounen are actually more effective. Just MHA has probably a bigger female audience than any shoujo anime.

I'd rather the bellyache than another isekai dominated season.
But I do become toxic when it comes to isekai and its perpetual dominance in every anime season. So I apologize for the outburst, but I really needed to vent.
Have a gud day wherever you are ,my good sir/ ma'am.

You're going to be bellyaching over the next big thing though with that attitude.

I can see it now... something like "Yaoi" becoming the next big fad in Anime and then suddenly the entire western fandom world will explode with outrage... or even make it more extreme being the combination of "Ecchi" and "Yaoi" all with Isekai themes. lol

It doesn't matter what this industry does. This is what I see when it comes to western fandom, if someone isn't complaining about one thing they find something else to complain about.

Anime still is yet to be created to satisfy anyone other than their own domestic fans even if other countries are starting to consuming more.
